I missed this the first time around. Will Ferrell portrayed fictional author Eric Jonrosh in the hybrid comedy documentary/thriller miniseries The Spoils of Babylon on the IFC network. It aired originally in January, 2014. Now he is reprising the role in the follow-up, The Spoils Before Dying, a three-part miniseries starting July 8th, 2015.
As Jonrosh, a mix of Ron Burgundy impersonating a Lothario-like Orson Welles, he opens and closes each episode. In the earlier series the makeup is pretty good, but not overly realistic. For the follow-up it appears they invested a bit more in the makeup and fleshing out the character so to speak. You can see the difference in the images below, click to see full size.
The second image is from an in character interview with “Playboy” that is interesting as someone in to exploring personas. Check it out at: http://www.ifc.com/shows/the-spoils-before-dying/blog/2015/06/eric-jonrosh-interview
The trailers provide a few glimpses also.
In The Spoils of Babylon Tim Robbins plays the family patriarch. He has a nice aging makeup in his death scene.
There are a few other interesting characters throughout, a very portly Haley Joel Osment for example.
Has anyone seen these? What are you impressions?
